Allotic

SDP: Who's in the band and what do they do?
Carly: I sing and play bass.
Steve: I play drums and sing back ups.
Paul: Lead guitar.
Blake: Guitar and backups
.

SDP: Briefly describe your music.
Paul: Pop-death-metal mixed with
orangutans in heat.
Carly: Rock-pop.

Steve: Lots of uptempo songs, a few ballads, lots of three part
harmony.

SDP: Why should people listen to your band?
Paul: Because if they don't listen I will be sad.
Steve: You don't wanna make Paul sad do you?

Carly: We have a very original sound, and we engage the audience as much as possible at shows.

SDP: How long has Allotic been a band for?
Carly: Almost 4 years.
Steve: I've been in for 2 years about.
Paul: One year.
Blake: They just picked me up on the street a few minutes ago and gave me shiny quarters.

SDP: Where did you get your name from?

Paul: We stole it from the French.

SDP: What makes Allotic different from every other band out there?

Carly: Our sound is definitely very unique, and there aren't all that many bands with female singers who also play a main instrument.
Steve: We're four people who like diverse music who blend it together, so bits of influences here and there, but the final product is unique. Co-ed vocals are pretty rare, with a singing bassist and drummer no less.

SDP: Is there any message you try to get across through your music?

Steve: I think in general our songs are about personal experiences. Some of them tell stories. Most of them have the theme of "you're not alone" and "seize the day." At least to me they do.

SDP: What bands, people, books, etc. have had the biggest influence on your band?

Carly: Personal experiences and relationships are a big lyrical influence for me. Music wise, I like everything from The Mars Volta to Evanesence to Brand New.
Paul: Everything but country.
Steve: Baz Lurhmann, and the '80s.
Blake: Lagwagon, Yellowcard.

SDP: What about Allotic are you most proud of?

Carly: We just recently won the San Diego Got Milk? Battle of the Bands... I think that was a huge milestone for us. Also, recording up in San Francisco was a wonderful experience. I'm really pleased with how the EP turned out. I think we all grew up a lot on that trip.
Paul: Winning the Got Milk? thing for San Diego.
Steve: I like how we all stick together personally, when ever any of us needs someone, the rest of us are always there.

SDP: What is the biggest thing about Allotic you want to improve?
Paul: I want to play more shows.
Steve: I want to re-record some of our older songs, and tour.
Carly: Continue to develop better writing skills and tour!

SDP: What CDs are currently in your stereo?
Paul: Hammerfall and Iron Maiden.
Carly: Avenged Sevenfold, The Mars Volta, Katy Rose, Coheed and Cambria.
Steve: Channel 3, Jimmy Eat World, The Julianna Theory, AFI, and Strong Bad Sings.
Blake: Coheed and Cambria, Yellowcard, Fallout Boy.
