The Transit War (formerly 3 Last Words)

August's band of the month is none other than San Diego's own 3 Last Words. Although the band has only been around for one full year, they've produced some amazing samples that caught our attention to make them Band of the Month. The indie three-piece just finished work on their first professional EP which should be out sometime this September. Soon to 3 Last Words
be a household name, 3 Last Words is a bright spot in San Diego's ever-growing underground music scene. The band sites Further Seems Forever, Jimmy Eat World, and the Cure as music influences, but Counterfit is probably a much closer comparison.

What follows is a short e-mail interview we conducted with Jim Hughes (vocals/guitar). Check these guys out now before they explode.

SDP: Briefly describe your music?
Jim: We will let the music speak for itself.

SDP: Why should people listen to your band?
Jim: The San Diego scene seems to be a little watered down with pop punk (any band featuring the vocals of Zach Foco) so hopefully we are a change from the norm.

SDP: Where did you get your name from?
Jim: We wanted a name that justified the end of things, whether it be "I love you," "I hate you" or "Fuck you q-lo."

SDP: What makes 3 Last Words different from every other band out there?
Jim: Chemistry, a musical style that is made up of different backgrounds, but works well together.

SDP: Is there any message you try to get across through your music?
Jim: Just the energy that music has to get you through life, it gets us through.

SDP: Do you have a single song that has a special meaning to you?
Jim: "Constant Reminder" - This song is like a release for me. It's everything I wanted to get off my chest at the time I wrote it.

SDP: What bands, people, books, etc have had the biggest influence on your band?
Jim: Kurt Cobain, Jimmy Chamberlain, Morrissey, Dinosaur Jr, and some super hot chick from Bernie's (3 Last Word's drummer) art school.

SDP: What about 3 Last Words are you most proud about?
Jim: The fact that we are all good friends and we just produced our first EP.

SDP: What is the biggest thing about 3 Last Words you want to improve?
Jim: To stop playing shitty bars without roofs and with bartenders who have some teeth.

SDP: What CDs are currently in your stereo?
Jim: Weezer "Maladroit", Dag Nasty, Refused, The Used, Smiths, The Jealous Sound.

SDP: Do you have any closing comments?
Jim: Thanks to everyone who has supported us and especially those who have helped us out in the past few weeks of recording. You can look for our EP out in September.
