Crashkillsfour

SDP: Who's in the band and what do they do?
Vince: Plays guitar and screams his head off.
Phil: cracks cymbals, breaks sticks and waits for new double bass pedals to arrive from Ebay.
J: Pics the 4 string and
backs up the vocals.
Dave: Plays guitar and yells back-ups on occasion.

SDP: Briefly describe your music.

Dave: We're all influenced by a bit of everything in the independent world, but our style seems to fall in a melodic metal/hardcore kind of sound.
Vince: It's ear poison, don't listen to it, it's deadly but if we must categorize it we're pre-softcore/ post-hairmetal, punk trashcore w/ a
twist.

SDP: Why should people listen to your band?

Dave: Because we rock so good... and Vince can get upset very easily due to
his old age.

SDP: How long have you been a band for?
Dave: With the current line up, seven months. The band's been around since around '98.

SDP: Where did you get your name from?

Dave: A newspaper article that Vince saw in 1996, it was an article about a
family of four who were hit be a stray semi truck at a rest stop somewhere in the
Midwest while they were picnicking... Driver lost control and just wiped them out.

SDP: What makes Crashkillsfour different from every other band out there?

Vince: Who says we are? Nothing's really original anymore, we just do it because we like it and if we happen to stumble into something original here and there, all the better.
Dave: There's so many bands out there that I think very few should or could be called original these days, for every new band you hear there's probably countless unheard of's that have been doing it longer and probably better... or did it years ago. We're just different because each member's personality and style is different from everyone else and I think that's what makes us and our music original.

SDP: Is there any message you try to get across through your music?

Dave: Yes, a lot of our recent lyrics tend to be about life's struggles, i.e. government/politics/the all mighty dolor and those you have it, and don't, etc... We (Vince and I) have both been writing the lyrics since I joined the band and we try to stay away from the crybaby, relationship, love topic that's been beat into the ground time and time again. I guess we'd like to think we have something more important to say...

SDP: Do you have a single song that has a special meaning to you?
Vince: "Wasting," an old song written about an old friend that's gone.

SDP: What bands, people, books, etc. have had the biggest influence on your band?

Phil: Bands like Metallica/Slayer and Pantera got me into playing drums when
I was younger, but now I'm more into the boy bands and the choreography.
Vince: Books? Fahrenheit 451, anything by Kurt Vonnegut (Welcome to the Monkey House). People? No one is worth idolizing, everyone is flawed. Grade, Boysetsfire, Refused, Snapcase, Quicksand and J would probably say Bad Religion is his biggest influence.
Dave: I've been reading Michael Moore a lot lately, reading Reefer Madness
by Eric Schlosser right now. No one particular person has ever influenced me. I
started playing the guitar because of bands like Verbal Assault, Cro-Mags,
Suicidal Tendencies, Metallica and Slayer.

SDP: What about the band are you most proud of?
Phil: How far my drumming has come over the years and the music as a hole.
Vince: Pride is a sin. You shouldn't fuck with the Jesus.
Dave: The new music that we are writing now together I am very proud of and
am looking forward to recording it very soon.

SDP: What is the biggest thing you want to improve?
Band: We really need and want to expand our music and shows into the all
ages scene more, we think there's many kids out there that would dig it but
haven't really had the chance to see us due to a strange booking games we play
with all ages venues here in San Diego.
Phil: Writing more complex music that is also easy to listen to.
Vince: Dave's patience.
Dave: Vince.

SDP: What CDs are currently in your stereo?
Phil: In Flames / Hot Water Music / Static Lullaby.
Vince: At the Drive-In "Relationship of Command," Boysetsfire
"After the Eulogy," Grade "Under the Radar"
Dave: As Friends Rust, Time in Malta, Jealous Sound, Gunmoll, Mars
Volta.
Band: J. would say Wilhelm Scream, Bad Religion and Coheed and Cambria we
believe.

SDP: Do you have any closing comments?
Dave: Sure, I'd like to say thanks a lot to Joel from all of us, and to anyone
reading this to check out our website @ www.crashkillsfour.com for upcoming
shows and to hear free music (old demo) and if you get a chance, ask Phil to show you his drivers license picture from when he was 16. Can you say:
m-u-l-l-e-t?

SDP: Anything else?
Band to J.: How does it feel to be the youngest member in the crashkillsfour
family?
J.: Why's everyone always pick'in on me?
