Cold Weather Rescue

Cold Weather Rescue just finished recording their new five song EP at Double Time Studios with Jeff Forrest. The new EP will be out this March, make sure to pick it up. For now you can whet your appetite by checking out two new songs of theirs at mp3.com/coldweatherrescue.

Joel: What's your band's name?
Coner: Cold Weather Rescue.

Joel: What's your function in the band?
Coner: I play guitar and sing back up vocals, Mike sings, Tony plays bass, Jason plays guitar and sings back up vocals, and Jordan plays drums.

Joel: Briefly describe your music.
Coner: Hmmmm....... That's a good question, so many types of music get blurred together that I wouldn't say we have a truly original sound, but I do think we carve out our own niche. Basically we are indie rock.

Joel: Why should people listen to your band?
Coner: We are extremely passionate about our music, I can honestly say that each one of us has an undying love for music. When ever possible we even focus energies on side projects just so we can make more music........ So hopefully we can pass that love on to the crowd.

Joel: How long has Cold Weather Rescue been a band for?
Coner: About 2 and a half years, we formed in August 2000.

Joel: Where did you get your name from?
Coner: Our good friend Dan who was originally going to sing with us came up with it.

Joel: What makes Cold Weather Rescue different from every other band out there?
Coner: We are very focused on our sound, we want people to be able to come to a show and basically hear what they would hear on one of our CDs, and give them a good show at the same time.

Joel: Is there any message you try to get across through your music?

Coner:
We don't try to send one message through our music. Mike's lyrics are inspired mostly by his own life experiences. We do try to steer clear of negative messages and maybe give some people hope through our music.

Joel: Do you have a single song that has a special meaning to you?

Coner: There are two new songs that we all really love to play, currently titled "Happy Picture Parade" and "Pretty in Red". Those songs pretty much encompass our sound and were a complete collaboration between all of us.

Joel: What bands, people, books, etc. have had the biggest influence on your band?
Coner:
We all love Smashing Pumpkins, Pinback, Fugazi, Dillinger Escape Plan, Shiner, The Cure, Mock Orange, Refused... I could go on forever. As far as books, we all read a lot, especially on tour. On our first tour we all read this book by Douglas Coupland called "Life After God". I think everyone should read that book. We all love Vonnegut, Chuck Palahniuk, Kerouac. Right now I'm reading Howard Zinn's "A Peoples History of the United States".

Joel: What about Cold Weather Rescue are you most proud of?
Coner:
We completed two west coast tours and played with all sorts of bands, from Allister to Mock Orange to The Briggs.

Joel: What is the biggest thing about Cold Weather Rescue you want to improve?
Coner: Our draw.... Haha, umm, I think we just want to be forever changing, always pushing ourselves further with what we can do, we don't want to be the same band in another two years from now.

Joel: What CDs are currently in your stereo?
Coner: Cursive- Ugly Organ, Failure- Fantastic Planet, Shiner- Starless, Modest Mouse- The Lonesome Crowded West.
