SDP: How long have you been a band for?
David: Since April of 2004.
SDP: Where did you get your name from?
David: The ancient mythological creature FirstWaveHello.
SDP: What makes First Wave Hello different
from every other band out there?
Jacob: I don’t feel there are any boundaries with our music. I think we
all feel the same way about not pigeon holing ourselves so we can play whatever
we feel like playing, We aren't trying to be number one, we’re just trying
to play good honest music.
SDP: Is there any message you try to get across?
Dave: Save the whales.
SDP: Do you have a single song that has a
special meaning to you?
Eric: Jacob and I had a conversation one night before we started this
band. He had just left his previous band as I did, we talked about how we
felt unproductive, and we weren’t happy with the direction of music at that
time. The next day Jacob came to my work with a rough demo of "Portable
People." I thought it was amazing, I thought, wow, this sounds really
fresh and different. That was initially what made me want to start playing
in First Wave Hello. I thought we really had something cool. That was a very
inspirational track for me.
SDP: What bands, people, books, etc. have
had the biggest influence on your band?
FWH: David Bowie, Ken Andrews, Elliot Smith, Jawbox, Radiohead.
Sarah: Any band that has the talent to be loud and has the talent to play
soft, quieter parts through the use of dynamics.
SDP: What about the band are you most proud
of?
Coner: That we are all on the same page and know exactly what we want
out of this.
SDP: What is the biggest thing you want to improve?
Jacob: We lost our beloved practice space. So I’m sure we all want to improve
that situation.
SDP: What CDs are currently in your stereo?
Jacob: The Cars, Grandaddy, REM.
Eric: Brian Eno “Taking Tiger Mountain”, Elliot Smith “From a Basement on
the Hill”, Frank Zappa “Joe's Garage.”
Sarah: Autolux.
David: Gomez "Split the Difference" and Herbie Hancock's Greatest Hits
Coner: The Shins, Dillinger Escape Plan, Smashing Pumpkins.
SDP: Do you have any closing comments?
David: Thanks for reading this interview and check us out live sometime!
