Tweak

"People think we're a drug attic [band] or something, but Tweak means to change," explains Daiki Kusuhara, lead singer of the Japanese punk band, Tweak. July's three piece Band of the Month has been around for the past four years, but only "recently decided to be serious and actually progress as a band" Tewak (photo by David Maran)
according to Kusuhara. Kusuhara claims to not be too sure about his band's genre, but points out that they could be categorized as "anything from Japanese thrash to indie rock." One thing is for sure, these guys can bring the rock, and are sure to please any melodic hardcore, Thrice, or Thursday fan.

Tweak is able to separate themselves from the rest of the pack with their cultural identity. All the band members originally met at a Japanese school, and they don't forget where they came from as they have several Japanese lyrics.

But perhaps where this band truly shines is in their ability to overcome tragedies. For the members of Tweak, tragedy struck in March 2002 when fellow band member and close friend
Masahito "Mongol" Clint Iwanga passed away. It was a hard time for the band and Kusuhara remembers: "After [Masahito's] passing away, it helped each one of us grow up. . . we learned many things from him and it helped the band get off our ass and do whatever we needed to do."

Do whatever they needed to do they did, and with their new work ethic the future looks bright for Tweak. The band recently recorded five songs at Double Time Studio with Jeff Forest which they plan on independently releasing this summer, and they already have several shows in the work. Make sure to keep an eye out for this band, as they will only improve as the months and years go by.

(Please note that when you access the Tweak website you'll get a pop-up box telling you that to display language characters correctly, you need a Japanese language pack. If you just hit cancel you'll get rid of the box and the page will work fine) .
