Joel: What's your band's name? All: Prizefight.

Joel: What's your function in the band?
Steve: I'm Steve, I play guitar and sing.
Ryan: I'm Ryan, I play guitar.
Tom: I'm Tom, I play drums.
Mikee: I'm Mikee, I play bass and backup vocals.

Joel: Briefly describe your music.

Tom: Rock and roll.
Steve: Hard rock/rock and roll.

Joel: Why should people listen to your band?
Mikee: It's something different than what you would normally expect to
Prizefight
hear.
Tom: Because people might have a good time.

Joel: How long has Prizefight been a band for?
All: Two years.

Joel: Where did you get your name from?
Ryan: We were listing possible names and it kind of stuck out.
Tom: It has no particular meaning, we just thought it sounded interesting.

Joel: What makes Prizefight different from every other band out there?
Mikee: The fact that we are not as vocal based of a band, it's more of an even balance of music and vocals so that it hits you like a wall of sound.
Tom: Not to sound superior or anything, but we haven't subscribed to a trend or anything. Certain music has influenced us and we try to have a certain direction in the writing process.

Joel: Is there any message you try to get across through your music?

Steve: We try to portray energy, especially in our live shows.

Joel: Do you have a single song that has a special meaning to you?

Steve: I like them all.
R
yan: "Sing At The End."
Tom: I like "Sing At The End" a lot, especially live, because of its energy.
Mikee: "Sally Field" is our best song because it has a full round quality to it, it's a song you can really feel.

Joel: What bands, people, books, etc. have had the biggest influence on your band?
Tom: Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, Tanner, Rocket From The Crypt, etc....
Ryan: A books that inspire energy, like Andre Britton, it inspires energy that we try to get across (through our music).
Mikee: Bands like Cursive, Far, and Hot Water Music that are doing what they love to do even though they are not the type of band that will hit MTV next week, but their energy and music inspires a following that will keep them playing for a long time to come. Even people like Jerry Lewis inspire me, back in the day they pushed the envelope of music and people caught on to that. It always opens up new doors.

Joel: What about Prizefight are you most proud of?
Tom: I like the fact that all we have to worry about during the writing process is the song itself, and not making sure we fit into a specific genre.
Ryan and Steve: Our album.
Ryan: Our '79 Chevy tour van; she'll never die.

Joel: What is the biggest thing about Prizefight you want to improve?
Ryan: The complexity of our songs; become better musicians.
Steve: Progress to the next level, do something different.

Joel: What CDs are currently in your stereo?
Tom: The new Radiohead, new Deftones, Bjork, Red Stars Theory, 20th Anniversary Dischord.
Steve: Bowery Electric - Lushlife.
Ryan: Van Morrison - Astral Weeks, Fugazi, Good-Bye Blue Monday, The North Atlantic.
Mikee: Filter, Cursive's new album, Janes Addiction, Refused, System of a Down.
