Dominique
SDP:
Who's in the band and what do they do?
David: Guitar/vocals.
Adam: Bass/backup vocals.
Matt: Drums.
SDP: Briefly describe your music.
David: It is a musical representation of our various
life experiences.
Adam: As such our sound may be as diverse as hometown
buffets menu. |
 |
Matt: One big long slew of rip
roarin' rap music
SDP: Why should people listen to your band?
David: I think people should listen to our music because we
write honest music that people can relate to.
Adam: If people have any emotions whatsoever they will be
able to connect with our music.
SDP: How long has Dominique been a band for?
David: Dominique has been my brain child since third grade
Matt: (laughs) YEAH!
SDP: Where did you get your name from?
Adam: Our name is actually credited to the genius of our former
lead singer. Dominique is a character in the book The Fountainhead
Written by Ayn Rand. When people ask us what the name means
we usually tell them to read the book, which is about 800
pages long.
Matt: (farts loudly and a passer by looks at him funny, then
Matt blows a kiss at him) Yeah we're extremely intellectual.
SDP: What makes Dominique different from every other band
out there?
Matt: Well... If you really think about it music is written
in half steps and for that to equal an entire chromatic scale
it needs 12 tones and every band uses those 12 tones so I
guess all bands are the same........ Except the Mars Volta.
(Finishes with a loud belch and then scratches the bald spot
on his head).
SDP: Is there any message you try to get across through your
music?
Matt: (laughs) No.
David: Love had and lost. (Laughs).
Adam: We want to help people realize how imperfect this world
really is and how incomplete we are as human beings.
SDP: What bands, people, books, etc. have had the biggest
influence on your band?
David: I think Emily Dickinson has influenced me a lot also
Dustin Kensrue from Thrice, from listening to his music I
really learned that lyrics could be a lot more eloquent than
I'd ever imagined.
Adam: We owe our name to the author Ayn Rand for one thing.
As far as musical influences go, we owe a lot to bands like
At the Drive-In, Coheed and Cambria, Armor for Sleep... Stuff
like that.
Matt: As far as drums are concerned, I think that Brandon
Young (Noise Ratchet), Mike Marsh (Dashboard Confessional),
and the drummer for Brandston are my biggest influences.
SDP: What about Dominique are you most proud of?
Adam: The fact that we can be louder than Dave and Matt's
dogs.
David: I think I'd have to say that we haven't stopped playing
yet even though a lot of people are unsupportive of where
we want to go with this.
Matt and Adam: (nod heads in agreement).
SDP: What is the biggest thing about Dominique you want
to improve?
David: How many shows we play. I personally would love to
play way more shows than we do, I'd like to play every weekend
as opposed to a few times every few months, and I think it
would be cool to play more technical music.
Matt: Hopefully the music is always improving, I think if
bands have the ability to play their best then they shouldn't
play below what they know they can play.
Adam: I think the speed at which our music improves could
be improved.
SDP: What CDs are currently in your stereo?
David: Bright Eyes-Lifted, Brand New- Your Favorite Weapon,
Cursive- The Ugly Organ, The Ataris- So Long, Astoria
Matt: Alkaline Trio- Good Mourning
Adam: AFI- Sing the Sorrow, Propaghandi- Today's Empires,
Tomorrow's Ashes .
