Die September
Die September is a new band emerging on the San Diego scene. Featuring former members of Scribble, You And What Army, and Violent Scene From A Film, they will rock your world.

Joel:
What's your band's name?
Corey – Die September
Joel:
Who does what in the band?
Adam – guitar, pretty face, Sshit backing vocals.
Corey – guitar, lead vocals.
Patrick – Teen idol and drums.
Gavin
– Does some heys, does some bass and does some drinking.
Joel: Briefly describe your music?
Patrick – We don’t want to limit
this art to the constrictive predetermined idea of what music should be.
Corey
– We are just getting started and have a lot of options as to which direction
the band should go. We’ve talked a lot about our different influences and after
recording this demo, I know I am interested to see what road we’ll take.
Joel: Why should people listen to your band?
Patrick – We’re not insincere,
boring people who are in the music scene for monetary reasons.
Corey – We
definitely have some personality and flavor in this band and I hope it comes through
when we start to write and work on new material.
Joel: How long has
Die September been a band?
Corey – Not long at all… Patrick, Adam and
I were in Scribble for a while. I’d say about 3 or 4 months. I think Pat recognized
first that things were kinda falling apart and he left. We tried to keep it going
but it was hard to keep moving forward. So Scribble broke up and I had some songs
that were never really Scribble songs in the first place. To me, everything was
changing, it still is.
Joel: Where did you get your name from?
Corey - The song "Sympathy is the Devil" is about all the media coverage
and events that were taking place around the time of the year anniversary of September
11th. TV, newspapers, news sites, it was all just making me sick, everything was
saturated with nationalism and the events were almost celebrated. Then there was
the talk of making 9/11 a holiday, honestly I couldn’t wait for the month to just
end. I wrote that song and I was going to title it Die September but after talking
about the name with Gavin and Adam we decided it would be a good name for the
band itself.
Joel: What makes Die September different from every other
band out there?
Corey – In other bands I’ve been in, we’ve always been
just that, a band. This band we’re friends first. I truly care about the people
I am making music with and recording that demo was one of the most interesting
and fun times of my life. I try to bring out the best in these guys no matter
what they do and I know that I have their support as well. If I come up short
and something doesn’t sound right, we’re gonna get through it as a unit.
Joel: Is there any message you try to get across through your music?
Corey – No. I can only write about experiences that I live through, whether or
not there is a message in there is up to the listener.
Joel: Do you
have a single song that has a special meaning to you?
Corey – I think
all 4 songs so far are pretty special in their own way. Pat’s song stands out
to me because the different parts were written by different people; we wrote it
as a band. "Sympathy (is the Devil)" obviously is special because we
named our band after that song, it has a more social view as opposed to a personal
one. "She’s All Alone" is extremely personal and emotional for me. And
"Growing Old" draws off a negative experience that Patrick and I both
went trough while playing in another band. .
Joel: What bands, people,
books, etc have had the biggest influence on your band?
Everyone - Motorhead.
Joel: What about Die September are you most proud of?
Corey
- I’m proud that we are ranked right up there with New Found Glory and Rufio on
the "Punk" IUMA charts… because everyone knows "punk" is in.
Joel:
What is the biggest thing about Die September you want to improve?
Corey
– I just want to see things start moving forward. Shows, writing, recording…
Joel: What CDs are currently in your stereo?
Gavin – Jawbreaker - etc,
Bane – Holding This Moment, ATDI – Relationship of Command, Sick of It All
Everyone
- Violent Femmes, Refused, Taking Back Sunday, Motorhead, Public Enemy, Danzig,
Alkaline Trio, Converge, D4, Propagandhi, Matt Skiba/Kevin Seconds split, Misfits
and more we can’t think of…
Corey – In/Casino/Out is better than Relationship
of Command.
Joel: Do you have any closing comments?
As a Band
– We want to give a shout out to the Frat, and Loons from Dogmatic. Thanks to
Joel for the spot on the site.
Corey - I want to thank Erick from Pushover
along with all the people that support local music and go above and beyond just
promoting their own band. Eric from OC bombers, Naps with Model Citizen, The Ruminants,
Brandan and Sk8 or Die, and anyone else that knows us… we appreciate any and all
support. Thanks.
