Flight to Athena

Would you like to introduce yourselves?
Sure. I’m Brian a.k.a. B Weezy. This is Pat a.k.a. P Tizzle. And also John Wayne a.k.a. J Dubb. Angel and Joey, collectively known as “The Mexicans”, are also in the band, but not here responding to the email. But they are truly missed at the moment.

Where do you draw songs from, lyrically?

Flight to Athena

Brian- I draw them from a slew of great Saturday morning programming, such as “Rugrats” and “Doug”. But seriously, the lyrics come from whatever is going on in my head and heart at the time that the song is being written. Whatever emotion that the sound of the song makes me feel, that is what I write.

How would you describe your album, and what type of music fans do you think it appeals best to?
The album is a combination of the good, the bad, and the epic natures of our lives. Each member contributes his own unique style, allowing for a diverse yet cohesive album. This cd appeals to anyone who likes good music; young, old, and the really really old. It appeals to pretty much everybody.

How do you feel about the final product?  Is there anything you wish you could change?
The product was done on a local bands budget, so there is always more that can be done with more time and a bigger budget. Brian Grider, the producer, did a great job with the material, and really brought out our collective sound.

What makes Flight to Athena different from every other band out there?
We feel that our album and each song in turn, have a type of “build” to it. With each song, the listener is on his/her own personal roller coaster. We put everything we have into every single show, regardless of the size of the crowd. Our live show has amazing energy, and that is another thing that makes us different.

What was the recording process like?

I think we all agree that recording was not the most fun experience. There is so much detail involved. However, you get to see the progress of the songs and how great they can sound when properly mixed and perfected.

What can fans expect at your live show, and how have fans been reacting to your music?
Raw energy and crowd involvement. We’re going to make sure that everyone that leaves an FTA show will be stoked to come to the next one. The fans at our shows have been awesome. We have been getting a real positive response. A band couldn’t ask for better fans. In short, we love their guts.

As a newer band, do you think the music community in San Diego has been supportive in helping you guys get the ball rolling?
We have really been given a lot of great opportunities so far, especially from the local radio stations and promoters. We have been truly lucky to get all of these great things.

What’s next for the band?
We have a slew of shows coming up in the near future, and we going to try to venture out of San Diego a bit more, bringing the rock to a whole new audience.

Anything else you’d like to add?
Come see us on the Ernie Ball Stage at the San Diego Warped Tour. We love your guts.
