The New Addiction

San Diego Punk: How would you describe your sound and what type of fans do you think the music appeals to?

Roland: Our sound is pure rock and roll.  We are suckers for heavy guitars, big beats, and melodies. Since we are a 3 piece, we try to define our band by making a power trio sound like a 5 man band.  Our music is made for

The New Addiction
people that live life to the fullest and want to be positive through rock.  Our songs can appeal to everyone from punk to hard rock fans all the way to pop rock fans. We have it all.  Our new record will rock you with tracks such as, "Get What You Deserve," “Take Control," & "Salvation," and then ease you with tracks such as "False Starts & Candy Hearts" and the acoustic jam, "Photograph Of You."  We still keep a lot of our elements for our old fans from our old band, but we are more rockin' than ever.  Pure rock ‘n roll.

How has the response been to “No Progress Without Change”?

The response has been great! We actually are about to get ready to do a proper U.S. release of the LP soon here since we have only done an exclusive promotional release through Burnlounge.com.  We are looking forward to getting the record out everywhere.  In the meantime, the record is currently available everywhere in Japan and doing pretty well, we are excepting offers and have been getting a couple interests here and there and hope for the best.  We just got done signing over three new tracks to Warner Brothers Records for media use and we are excited to be affiliated with the WB.  So the response and little buzz about the record so far has been great, but we intend it to be greater when the record is available everywhere.

Are you guys happy with the album?  Looking back on it, what are your favorite parts and is there anything you wish you could change?

Everyone is there own worst critic.  We know that we can always do a better job on any recording, but when we feel right about it and it's what we wanted or heard in our head, we go with it and make it the best that we can, always keeping our fans in mind.  Sometimes the resources can tamper your recording creativity, especially on a budget and time limit, but the three of us have always been use to recording great sounding records on a small budget and time limit.  It also helps that I can engineer when needed to make the process move faster and less stressful.

I saw InYa Face Records is putting out the album in Japan.  Any plans to tour there?

Not for a while, but hopefully in a year or two from now when we sell some more units.  We love Japan.  They have always supported us throughout our career with Larger Than Life.

Does your past association with Larger Than Life help or hurt the band?  Has it been hard to try to establish a new band with a new direction when many fans are hoping for more LTL style material?

It never hurts us at all.  It actually is flattering sometimes when old fans are pumped up on our new band and to hear that we are still playing after all these years and hard work.  It motivates us more.  It is always hard to establish a new band with a new direction when fans are expecting or hoping for more of a different style, but in this case no one expected shit from us.  We just did what we felt was right for us you know?  It was a great blow to us for Larger Than Life to have to break up after Warped Tour '05, but everything happens for a reason and it felt right for us to disband and start something refreshing after 8 years.  The funny thing is there are a lot of old LTL fans that have no idea about our new band, but once the word is out, everyone will be ready for something new, fun, and rockin'.  So far all of the responses and buzz has been positive and in a way it can all be beneficial to us because of our past experiences throughout the years.

What’s your take on the current music scene in San Diego?  What’s good about it and is there anything we need to work on?

It's definitely not the same as it ever was.  We will always support the local San Diego scene, but many things have change.  It is crazy how fast time flies and how things change.  There is a great music scene here still, but it seems like you got to be older to actually enjoy it. Everyone who was younger is now older and everyone has a band now.  It's sometimes hard to distinguish the good from the bad, but I guess you just got to flow with the punches.  Nothing is ever the same.  New promoters and venues also pop up in the local scene and if you are nothing then you will get nothing so that does make things harder to try and prove yourself in an ever changing scene.  It's sometimes who you know and who knows you that makes a difference too.  The scene has its perks though.  Playing the 21 & up and all ages circuit is always fun to us. We also always just try to bring that good vibe at our shows like it was 1998 all over again.  We stay true to ourselves and just want to make music that will leave a great legacy as one of San Diego's best bands.

Any exciting plans on the horizon for TNA?

We have our CD release show coming up at the Zombie Lounge on May 25th with our buddies from Spell Toronto and The Lost. We are super excited to release this album and celebrate it! We will be headlining so make sure to say hi and grab a copy of our album.  We have ideal plans to tour in the future, but we are taking one step at a time.  We will be making a big appearance in June at On Broadway for the Financially Hung VIP party hosted by the Playmate of the Year, but for now, that's about all that's planned for San Diego shows.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you to all of our fans who have stuck with us through thick and thin.  We know there are a lot of fans out there that still haven't been reached and don't know about our continuation, but you won't be dissatisfied.  We love you all and thank you for being there for us.  The support means a lot.  We all hope you enjoy our new band and new songs, so make sure you grab a copy of the new record, "No Progress Without Change" available soon everywhere online.  Also, check out www.TheNewAddiction.com for additional free downloads and other goodies.
