The North Atlantic: Wires in the Wall
We Put Out Records
2006

8.1 out of 10

So, what can I say about the North Atlantic that hasn’t been said by almost every single music and entertainment magazine in San Diego. Well not much, other than all those magazines have got it right. The North Atlantic may just be cream of the crop when it comes to “local” indie rock in San Diego (quotes

Secret Apollo
used to signify that originally the band formed in Michigan). Their new release only solidifies this relatively new to the area band's sudden rise to local notoriety. With parts so intense that any guitar junkie will be foaming at the mouth to songs that even the Postal Service wished they had thought of, the North Atlantic's "Wires in the Walls" runs the full spectrum of sonic goodness. I mean in my opinion the entire price of the record is worth it just for "Bottom of this Town" a perfect mix of synth and vocals that sounds like what the Postal Service could be if they allowed their figurative and vocal balls to drop, and decided to raise their voice once in a while. While personally the occasional noise pop on the album wasn't my idea of a good listen I still could note that it was listenable even to my hesitant ears. So move over Transit War, Stranger's Six, Get Back Loretta, and First Wave Hello, the North Atlantic is ready to take away your respective "King of the Locals" crowns.
