Pepper: No Shame
Volcom Records
2006

3 out of 10

Pepper has been around the San Diego scene for a couple years now.  They have an established fan base and constantly play shows at local venues.  However their latest release feels like they are trying to be something that they are not.  “No Shame” reeks of

unoriginality, with songs sounding disgustingly similar to Jack Johnson and Sublime.  The beats and riffs on “No Shame” are all the same.  The current hip reggae/dub stoner rock is what these guys do best, however the music on this CD is boring.  “No Control,” is the single of the album and has been playing on the radio.  It is definitely more upbeat than the rest of the songs, and although it’s not the best song, it doesn’t get much better.  If you are a fan of the band you may like this record.  Real kick back songs and less than funny skits create a record to kick back and get stoned to.  If that’s what you are looking for, this might be a record for you.
