Scott and Aimee: Sitting in a Tree
2007

2 out of 10

Well, as you can see from the “out-of-ten” score I gave this cd that I wasn’t a very big fan of what I heard.  This CD just struck me as incredibly corny and immature.  Sitting in a Tree is the sort of release that will appeal to middle schoolers and young high school kids who are at that really awkward time in their lives trying to “find themselves”
and

looking to Gwen Stefani as a roll model.  For starters, I couldn’t get past the ridiculous lyrics.  On the CD, you will find such stanzas like: “a southern California kind of love.  I could live forever in the sun, southern California kind of love.  Baby you’re the one.”  I just can’t get behind this sort of thing these days.  I’ve already heard the “love in the sun” song a kabillion times from other artists.  ..and as if the trite lyrical approach wasn’t enough to make me want to vomit, the vocal stylings surely are.  It is WAY OVER THE TOP FLAMBOYANT!!!  There are some absurd vocal sustains, and the inflections are very forced.  It sounds like they are trying too damn hard.  The cadences are also very boring with an overload of “line-for-line rhyme-for rhyme” flows.  It’s very predictable and irritating.  I’m pretty sure they totally ripped off The Turtles song Happy Together for the melody on Miss America which is also lame!  Throw in an ultra corny rap verse on the song Girl With Issues, and I find that Frisbee tossing this CD out of the car window while speeding down the freeway won’t even help relieve how annoyed I feel!  I gave this CD a 2 out of 10 because despite my disgust toward the songs, the sound production is good.  But, that is to be expected given the musicians involved in the project.  If you are a fan of No Doubt and DHC, you might find something on here you like.  The style is very dated and is rooted in that whole rock/ska/punk thing that reached its peak and faded away over a decade ago.
