Joel: Ok can everybody state their names for us?
Chris: I'm Adrianne. I play keyboard and do vocals.
Adrianne: I'm Christian. Christian Jankowski. I play drums.
J: Ok the first question we wanted to ask you guys was, well we were at the House of Blues last night and...
C: Oh did you like that?
J: Yeah I thought it was good.
Evan: It was like kingstyle, palace like. It was crazy.
A: Yeah its great venue.
J: Did you guys like playing there at such a huge place?
A: Oh yeah. Well its not that its the biggest. Its not that. I don't think that. Playing House of Blues is like the most... (pauses)...posh place you can play. Number one they treat you well. You get fed great food. You get anything you want and there's nice dressing rooms. And there's a big place for kids to watch the show. That's why I like House of Blues. Its like relaxing. Its not like uuunnnghhhh...Like a tiny, tiny bar. Everyone can come and everyone can...(turns to Chris)...what do you think?
C: Yeah. Only thing I didn't like about House of Blues was uh..was the mosh pit.
E: Oh..like the non-existent mosh pit?
A: Well...I think those kids were just having a good time.
C: I know they're having a good time.
A: It wasn't really like a mosh pit it was like a dance pit. So that makes it ok.
C: I just look out there and I'm like aaaaaw man...
A: Well, when it gets like violent that's when it gets kinda rough. When its like just fun times its cool.
C: Well House of Blues, man we played LA House of Blues and they're all beautiful venues you know. Great places to play.
J: So what's it like going from a place like that and then coming to play here at the Epicentre?
A: Its just a different place.
C: We're on tour you know. Venues change every day. You know. It could be a community building, it could be a House of Blues, it could be...
A: A bar that's tiny.
C: It could be a strip club that's been turned into a place to play.
A: Which we've played at one time.
C:You know...Its cool. Its touring you know.
A: Its like..Its touring, it does change everyday and so its like a change of pace and you just go along with what life gives you. Seriously that's what it is.
C: Its great
J: Ok. So what about your new songs. There's like definately a difference in the style and pace between those, and the ones on Designing A Nervous Breakdown. So what brought about that change?
C: Adrianne go ahead.
A: Well...Growth as a band. Listening to different types of music. Expanding, listening. And uh... (points behind us)..That kid is gonna fall off that table on those roller skates and crack his head open! Thats so scary! Oh my lord. Ok. Um...Growth. That is the one word I would use. Growth in listening to music and growth in playing our music. And writing.
C: Granted our first album is a great album.
A: Its just different we're just growing. You know.
C: We're pushing it.
A: We're all older and we're expanding our limitations. We don't have any limitations so we're just expanding.
C: That's the best part about being on an independent label you know. You can do what you want to do. What you want to play you know. They can't tell you what to do.
J: Ok I think Evan is going to ask some questions now.
A: Ok (cell phone ringing) let me just tell this person that I'll call them back.
A: Ok
E: Alright. Has anything cool happened on the tour yet? Like any good stories?
A: We've met really cool people. Superdrag.
C: Superdrag..great guys.
A: We went on tour with Superdrag. Wich was insane and fun and awesome. Um...and Mates of State being on the tour and Mars Volta has been awesome and cool and fun. And we got to go home for a couple days. Which was really great. And...That's about it. There's been some wierd stuff, but that's not worth talking about. You know. Every tour brings its suprises.
C: I mean its nice to play a venue and then go to a hotel and the hotel's on the beach. So you just hang out on the beach all night and just party.
A: That was our experience in Florida it was really fun. We got a really cheap hotel and it was really awesome.
C: Fort Loterdale, yeah.
A: It was like cheaper than like crappy hotels we stay in and we just went on the beach and hung out all night. It was really fun.
J: Did you guys go to Disneyland yesterday?
A: I walked around the city. Disneyland city. But I didn't go into Disneyland.
C: Yeah they didn't give us passes to actual Disneyland. We could go out and about where we are but...
A: Which is cool, there were a lot of fun things to do.
C: Yeah I haven't been there since I was five.
A: I was like six.
C: Really? I didn't know this.
A: I went to DisneyWorld too. Have you been to DisneyWorld?
C: Fourth grade.
A: Bush Gardens?
C: Epcott Center.
A: Sea World?
C: I don't think so.
A: I've been to a lot of sea worlds. Like two or three
C: My brother had a broken leg...Pat's leg was broken when we were there and I wanted to push him in the wheelchair but he didn't want me to. He wouldn't let me.
A: Six flags?
C: Six flags, yeah I've been to lots of those.
A: St. Lois, Illinois.
C: Chicago one. My grandparents used to live like...
A: (Turns to us) This is the kind of stuff we do. Sorry we're kinda off.
C: (Finishing what he was saying) kind of used to live in a condo or town house and from the back from the back porch you could see the roller coasters.
A: I hate the American Eagle at six flags.
C: That was a cool one man.
A: It was all wooden...uugghh...lord have mercy. It makes my stomache, it makes me....Well the thing is I like roller coasters when you, you do the upside-down loop, go down fast and...but I mean those wooden roller coasters scare the hell out of me. 'Cuz they're like (makes a roller coaster sound effect) And the whole time your head is like..

C: And you can loosen the seatbelt so your like popping out of the seat.
A: My worst nightmare is carnivals. That ride where you're just hanging upside-down for like thirty seconds at a time.
C:Yeah they go like this (demonstrates).
A: Yeah
E: I think I know what you're talking about.
A: Oh my gosh that makes me barf. I don't know how we just got on the subject of carnivals...Disneyland
C: Disneyland.
A: Next question, sorry. (Laughs)
E: Its all good.
A: I'm sorry we just suck right now. We haven't done an interview in a while.
E: That's ok. So tell us about living in Kansas City. Is that like cool, or does it suck?
C: (Looking at Adrianne) Well you lived in Kansas city didn't you?
E: Well Kansas you know.
A: We live in Kansas. In Lawrence. Its like forty minutes from Kansas City. I'm the only one besides Josh and I. Josh and I, both of our parents live there still. Chris' parents live in Dallas. Jim's parents live in Florida, and Justin's parents live in Lawrence too where we live. Lawrence is a great town. Its really liberal and small.
C: Laid-back
A: And fun. You know how you guys are. Its like you go on a vacation and its really fun. But then you get home and you're like ahhhhh, I'm home. Its like my home you know. Its great to go back there.
C: And you know the same people. You kind of like know everybody.
A: Which gets old, but is cool at the same time.
C: Yeah I mean its cool to see people.
A: A lot of cool bands. We've got a really good music scene.
C: A lot of good bands come.
A: We go to open mic night every Monday night at the bar we play at.
C: And its always free so you go in there and you just watch some bad bands play and just have a great time.
A: Its really fun. Sometimes they're good. Surprisingly good.
C: I love the metal bands man.
A: There's some bad-ass metal bands that play there. But its good, 'cuz you know, Lawrence is just like our home. We play there and practice there and hang out there. You know its fun. Chris works there when he's home. Its just a nice place.
E: That's cool. That's how like, we are here.
A: Yeah. Its your home so its like, comforting.
C: I mean its a small town, its not like a city.
E: Is there anything that's like the coolest thing to do there? Where all the kids go on Friday night?
A: Well there's not many young kids just because its a college town. But there are a lot of young kids at the same time. A lot of professors have their kids in high school and stuff. Friday and Saturday nights usually The Replay is really fun in Lawrence.
C: We usually go to bars. (Laughs)
A: We usually just hang out at bars. But other things...There really is a lot of things to do in Kansas City. Go to movies.
C: Drive-ins
A: We all love going to movies. Its like what we do when we're home.
C: (Turns towards Adrianne) Why do you keep looking at me?
A: I don't know I'm like expecting you to say something. That's about it. I don't know. Its like in the country too. Its like Kansas City, and then forty-five minutes of country, and then Lawrence, and then nothing. So its like, you can do all kinds of stuff.
C: I'm sure for bands, I mean 'cuz from Lawrence to Denver there's nothing. For bands driving from Denver to Kansas City, Lawrence is like a little oasis.
A: But its really funny because a lot of people that come to Lawrence, like Superdrag, and all the people that have been to Lawrence and bands that we run into are like, "Oh you're from Lawrence? We love Lawrence!" So its a really fun town to play in and hang out in.
E: That's cool. Ok so we have to ask, if is ok, about this marriage here...
A: Yeah.
C: Don't look at me.
A: Its ok. I know I just looked at you.
E: Did it happen yet?
A: Yeah we got married in August.
E: I see. Well congratulations.
A: I know its like everyone thinks "I wonder why they ask that in interviews", but its 'cuz my name's different on all the posters and press releases so people are like...
C: Was that Robbie that just called?
A: No it was Jenny. (Could be Jennie, Jeny, etc..) My friend. So everyone's like "Did you get married?" And I'm all "yeah". So I got married in August. It was really fun. You can ask him (Chris) how the wedding was 'cuz I didn't really get to enjoy myself. You know I did but it was crazy.
C: Beautiful, elegant wedding. Great.
A: How was the reception?
C: A lot of champagne.
E: He's all "I don't remember..."
A: No they had a really good time. We took band pictures. It was really funny. Itwas one of my favorite parts of the night besides hanging out with family and friends and stuff. Rob took pictures with his band. All of them were in tuxes. And then I took pictures with them. And then Rob and I took pictures with our band. And then we had a band picture. And for the band picture my mom rented this thing called a "Magic Bus". It was like, really psychedelic. With lights and poles and pictures of John Lennon and peace signs all over it.
C: Really 70s.
A: It took all the bridal party and everything to the reception. So we got to take pictures outside of it. So its really weird because is like, this awesome picture and they're all somewhat dressed up, and I'm in my wedding dress for this band picture. So its really weird. I wanna use it some time.
C: We're going to. We'll all use it.
A: Its really cool. And they're all like, in their nice clothes. Some of the boys in the band looked (sings this word) crazy. Josh wore a denim beret. Justin wore a white linen suit with a scarf. And like a big red leisuresuit shirt. It was really weird, but fun. He looked so cool. And Chris just had on slack and a shirt.
C: And a tie.
A: You wore a tie?!
C: Yeah!
A: Ok. (Turns towards us) Go ahead.
E: Alright well that about does it. Is there anything else you want to say?
A: Our new record comes out January 15th.
E: January 15th baby. We'll mark the calendar.
A: Ok
E: Yeah. Anybody you wanna thank or anything, just go ahead.
A: Our family and friends, and parents. Especially my mom. And my husband. (To Chris) Kim? Wanna thank Kim for being supportive?
C: She's a friend.
A: (Laughs) She's his girlfriend.
C: You said family and friends right?
A: His bracelet says "Kim's Boy". His girlfriend made it for him. (Lifts us Chris' arm and shows us this pink and white beaded bracelet)
C: Yeah. So when I'm like hitting on a girl, I look down and I'm like, Damn, I'm already taken. I'm sorry I gotta go. (Laughs)
A: You suck Chris. Well thanks guys.
C: The beer's still on me though. Here's another drink for ya.
A: We're gonna go eat dinner.
