Kevin: State your name, age, and what you do in Waiting For Autumn.
Davey: I'm Davey, I'm 22 and I play drums.
Steven: I'm Steven, I'm 20 and I sing.
Michael: I'm Michael, I'm 19 and I play rhythm guitar and back up vocals.
Joe: I'm Joe, I'm 20 and I play bass.
Waiting For Autumn
Josh: I'm Josh, I'm 20 and I play guitar.
Steven: It was so funny cause' we did this interview once and this guy made us say our name and like play our instrument, it was so weird.
All: (laugh)

Kevin: What's the history of Waiting For Autumn? How'd you guys get together and what have you released?
Davey: Joe and I were room mates like years ago. We started a couple emo songs. We actually wrote "Yellow" and "Forget Me Not". Like the basic versions. Then we moved out and we split up and we met back together later on and we were like, "Hey, let's really get this thing going." And we started writing some more. We found Steven when he was singing with his old band and at the same time we found Josh playing at church. So it was the four of us for awhile and then Michael came along one day to practice and we made him play guitar for us.
Michael: Still regretting that.
All: (laugh)
Davey: We had a couple demos that were recorded but they were crappy and we really needed a good recording so we went into this studio and laid down like six tracks at first and then the label came along and picked us up and they wanted us to make it a full-length. And on September 25 we released our full-length.
Kevin: Yeah, I remember when you guys had those one recordings and I had to turn my computer up super loud to hear it.
Waiting For Autumn: Yeah, those ones sucked!
All: (laugh)
Steven: And then once you turn it up louder, you're like, "Oh...turn it back down."
All: (laugh)

Kevin: Do you guys have a good chemistry as a band?
Joe: Uh..No. But we're working on it.
All: (laugh)
Steven: We're all at opposite sides of the spectrum. Like if we were a five sided box we'd all be at different corners.
Joe: A five sided box?
Steven: None of us like the same kind of music. We're all just completely different people.
Kevin: Like all these different elements coming to the table?
Joe: Yeah, totally.

Kevin: You guys just got signed by American Jealousy. How'd you guys get signed by them and how do you like it so far?
Steven: The guy who owns American Jealousy heard about us and came to one of our shows. Then he came up to me at the end of the show and was like '
Hey, I got this record company. I wanna sign you.' And I was all 'Where do I sign?'
All: (laugh)
Steven: And then I told him to go to our manager Pug.
All: (laugh)
Steven: And he did. And then we signed. We love it. We've never been happier.
Joe: American Jealousy is awesome.
Steven: It's the best label we've signed to yet!
All: (laugh)

Kevin: You guys go all out every show. What keeps you motivated to come out every show and play you're hearts out?
Davey: The fact that if we sucked, no one would come to see us.
Steven: Girls!
Michael: Yeah, our live show is pretty much all that's holding our band together. We realized the music isn't all that great, so we gotta do something else to redeem ourselves.
All: (laugh)
Steven: That's all they say. I do it for the girls.
All: (laugh)
Joe: I think it's that we're writing music that means something to us and not just lyrics, 'cause that only means something to Steven since we have no clue what he's singing.
Steven: Nope! Girls!
All: (laugh)
Joe: But, like the emotion we put into writing the music. That's the motivation.
Michael: And it's more fun when after shows you're like "Wow, I played that show the best I could."
Joe: "Gotta put a hundred and ten percent," like my football coaches used to say.

Kevin: How'd you guys get the name Waiting For Autumn and what does it mean?
Davey:It's just crap.
Joe: It sounded good.
Davey: Next question.

Kevin: What are the future goals of this band and what do you hope to accomplish?

Steven: TRL!
All: (laugh)
Davey: Um.. Who knows where we'll be?
Michael: I really wanna meet Carson Daly actually.
Davey: OK, you're out of the band. We don't really have like a goal. It's like whatever is set in front of us is our goal at the time.

Kevin: What role does God take in your band?

Davey: Second place.
All: (laugh)
Josh: I think God is first place in our band. I like to make sure that everyone knows where they're coming from and we try to put him first. Try to stay humble and not get too carried away.
Joe: Way to go. Now everyone is going to hate us cause we're Christian.
All: (laugh)
Steven: We blew it!
All: (laugh)
Michael: Everything that's happened so far is directly from God 'cause really we're a crappy band. Honestly, I just think it's so amazing that people come to see us and I know that's totally a blessing from God. So we're totally grateful. And I think God is totally 1st place.
Steven: Yeah, I don't think we're special because we play any kind of music. I don't think anyone is special 'cause even people who aren't Christian are still children of God whether they recognize it or not. And we just recognize it. So it's almost like it's no big deal. We know God exists. We know we're all children of God and he's responsible for everything. So we're just going to do what we think he wants us to do.
Michael: That's such a rock-n-roll answer.
All: (laugh)
Steven: These guy are so scared to be corny.
Joe: We're so scared to be inaccurate in our doctrine.
All: (laugh)
Steven: Your guys' doctorate sucks!
Joe: Doctorate?
Joe: (laugh)
Kevin: I'm like witnessing the band break up right now.
All: (laugh)
Steven: It doesn't matter 'cause I am the band.
All: (laugh)

Kevin: How was the recording process for Now I Know Forever?

Steven: Make out?
All: (laugh)
Michael: It was kind of a drag. When we went in the studio we were just thinking, "Oh, we're gonna pump out six or so songs." Then we got signed half way through and had to do more, but it was a lot of fun. For the first time I thought it was a really cool experience.
Joe: We didn't really know what we wanted for an album. We didn't know what to shoot for. I wanted it to be harder. They wanted it to be softer. No one of us really ended up with anything we wanted, but the album came out cheap and it had everything we needed it to do. So we got really lucky.
Joe: Just wait for the next album!
All: (laugh)
Steven: It' be R&B.
All: (laugh)

Kevin: What do you guys want people to remember about Waiting For Autumn once you guys stop playing?
Michael: That we were cool guys. That we weren't jerks.
Steven: Yeah, I like that one.

Kevin: Is there any influence on your band musically or personally?
Steven: Yeah, Noise Ratchet has a lot of influence.
Steven: Yeah, DieRadioDie too!
Michael: DieRadioDie is a huge influence for me. I like worship those guys and it's a dream to play with them all the time.

Kevin: Would you say the San Diego "scene" is a good scene for a starting emo-rock band?
Joe: I'd say so. There's a lot of all ages venues.
Steven: I think it's a good scene for any band.
Davey: And it's cool 'cause a lot of the fans don't stick a band and shut the other. They have broad ranges of rock bands they like.

Kevin: What's your guys favorite song to play live?
Josh: "Leaving Me Tonight".
Michael: Yeah, "Leaving Me Tonight" is getting up there for me too.
Steven: "Tearing Pages" or "Yellow" for me. What about you Kevin?
Kevin: Um. Probably "Tearing Pages". When you guys played that at The Selah Building it was very rad. You guys went off.

Kevin: Last question: What advice do you guys have for starting bands?

Davey: Practice a lot!
Josh: Set scheduled practice times. And don't be "wishy-washy" about it.
Davey: Make the band a priority.
Joe: And also work out programs are good.
All: (laugh)
Steven: Hey did Joe tell you guys he's gonna make me run now. What a bunch of crap, but I'll do it for the band. I can fix fat, but nothing fixes ugly, Joe!
All: (laugh)

Kevin: Well on that note, we're done

Steven: Sick.
Michael: Cool, Thanks dude.
Davey: Thanks.
