(Joel and Evan circa 2001)

I started running sandiegopunk.com with my brother Evan in February, 2000, I was a sophomore in high school at the time. Thanks to help from several local bands and community members, the site was able to grow in ways I never imagined. Due to this success, I decided to keep running the site when I left San Diego in Fall 2003 to attend college at UC Berkeley. Four years later I'm graduating and realizing that I don't have plans to return to San Diego anytime soon. I've tried to in keep touch with the San Diego scene despite living 500 miles away, but it's been close to impossible. I don't know the bands and the scene the same way I did before I left San Diego, and it would be wrong for me to continue to run the site with such poor knowledge.

I've decided to turn the site over to my good friend Katherine. She's been a long time supporter of sandiegopunk.com and has helped out with various website activities since 2004. I'm hoping she'll be able to bring new life into the site, or at least keep it from dying (which was a strong possibility if I stayed in charge).

As for me, I'll be busy pursuing academic interests; I'm starting a research project on small rivers at a reserve in northern California and will be traveling to Costa Rica this fall to attend a tropical biology program. I'd like to thank all of you for your continued support over the past seven years. It would be impossible for me to list every individual who has given their time and energy to help this website succeed, but you all know who you are anyway. Most importantly, I want to thank all the continued visitors, because without you, we'd have no reason to be doing any of this to begin with. Those of you who wish to contact me in the future can do so by writing to me at my first initial (j) followed by my last name (scheingross) at gmail dot com. And in the next few days I'll have my personal website up at www.joelscheingross.com. Thanks again for everything. Being involved with SanDiegoPunk defined my youth and gave me memories I'll cheerish for the rest of my life.
